Dear Parents, Students and Friends
As I write this week’s newsletter, I have just returned from the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) ‘Hamilton’ excursion with our students who have a passion for Performing Arts and the Entertainment industry. It was an exceptional experience and one that has inspired and left us in awe of the creative capacity of those involved in theatre production, audio engineering and music. Thank you to Mrs Maher, Mrs Lomax, Mr King and Mrs Waters for their organisation and support of the students. It was an absolute pleasure to be away with these students who were wonderful ambassadors for the college and displayed respect and gratitude for the opportunity. Well done to all!
Enrolling Now for 2025
The enrolment process for 2025 is well underway, particularly for Year 6 students transitioning to Carroll College for Year 7 next year. We still have a few available spaces for Year 7, 2025 and other grade levels. Please encourage family members and friends to act soon if they would like to secure a position for their child/ren. I am meeting with families currently and it is such an enjoyable experience to learn more about the children enrolling in the college for 2025. All families are welcome! I am very open to personally meeting with families if they are simply enquiring about Carroll College and would like to learn more. Please email Nadine.cooper@cg.catholic.edu.au to make an appointment.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM 2024/25

Commissioning Ceremony for new Student Leadership Team (SLT)
We will gather as a college community on Monday 9 September to commission our new Year 12 leaders. It is a privilege to work alongside these young people as they grow in confidence and develop leadership skills that will equip them for life beyond school. Our new leaders have demonstrated qualities of dedication, integrity, and a passion for making a positive difference. They have already shown their potential to inspire, guide, and support their peers. As they take on their roles, they inherit a legacy of leadership that has been carefully nurtured and built upon by those who have come before them. More information will follow in our next newsletter when I thank our outgoing SLT when they hand over their positions to the newly elected Student Leadership Team in the coming fortnight.
Jack Newton Junior Golf
Congratulations to Sophie, Bill and Bronte Eppelstun who have all triumphed at the South Coast Junior Masters held at the Catalina Club last weekend. This tournament was run by Jack Newton Junior Golf and attracted 120 talented junior golfers with handicaps as low as PLUS 6 (that’s 6 under par). Bill won the Boys Overall Title by 2 shots. He enjoyed a bogey free first round and was the only player to go under par for both rounds (-4, -1). Sophie recorded a bogey free, home course personal best of -5 to come from behind and win by 4 shots. This is her third Jack Newton title this year, adding to her newly acquired NSW Country Girls Championship honour which she won at the NSW Junior Championships in Sydney over the July school holidays. Bronte also had a personal best finish of 4th overall with a strong + 3 second round. She won an age group trophy for her efforts and is keen to try and win the big one next year!
This was the first time in JNJG history that siblings have won the same masters level event. Go the Eppelstun family!
SENIOR SNOW TRIP
Last week saw our senior skiers and snowboarders take to the mountains for the annual snow trip. This experience carries with it a high level of responsibility for staff. Due to the nature of the sport and high risk environment, staff accompanying students are very experienced skiers/snowboarders and I thank them sincerely for their expert care. Thank you to Mr Coates, Mr Fogarty, Mrs Smith, Mr Graziani and Mrs Graziani.
A Prayer for Father’s Day
Gracious God,
bless fathers and all father figures
with such love and faithfulness that children
flourish and grow in uprightness and joy.
Bless those who long to be fathers and those for
whom this day is difficult. Amen.
Enjoy a special weekend. Blessings on your home and family.
With respect and encouragement to you.

Dear Carroll College Community,
It is hard to believe we are now entering Week 6 of Term 3 at Carroll College. The term is flying as we are witnessing several key events occurring across the campus. Stages 4 and 5 are currently consolidating their learning with submissions of both formative and summative tasks, with a close focus on high impact teaching practices. Last week the Trial Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams concluded for the current Year 12 cohort. As our senior students move into the final weeks, it is time to highlight the importance of students returning to school for valuable feedback.
The Trial HSC exams serve as mock battlegrounds where students get a taste of the challenges that await them in the final HSC exams. However, these mock exams are not just about testing knowledge, they are also about assessing performance, identifying weaknesses, and discovering areas that need improvement.
Returning to school after the Trial HSC exams provides students with a precious opportunity to engage with their teachers and receive personalised feedback. This feedback guides students toward areas they need to focus on. The Trial HSC exams are learning experiences in themselves, they reveal how well students manage time, handle stress, and adapt to exam settings. It's a chance to dissect what worked and what didn't, to optimise time management, and to build mental resilience.
The final weeks leading up to the HSC exams are akin to the final laps of a race. This is when consistency matters most. Returning to school in the final weeks helps students maintain their study routine, keeping them immersed in an environment conducive to learning. It's far easier to be disciplined and focused within the structured school environment than trying to replicate it at home. I encourage all of Year 12 to embrace this phase with enthusiasm, recognising it as a catalyst for growth and achievement.
Year 11 will be embarking on the preliminary examinations in Week 8. I had the opportunity to meet with the year group during Academic Care this week and I highlighted that the examinations are an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and dedication, and I encouraged students to approach them with a positive mindset. The following suggestions are a good way to break down the exams into manageable chucks:
1. Organise your study schedule.
Creating a well-structured study plan is essential for effective exam preparation. Break down subjects into manageable sections and allocate specific time slots for each. A balanced approach prevents burnout and ensures comprehensive coverage of the curriculum. Students should remember to include breaks for relaxation and rejuvenation.
2. Review class notes regularly
Student class notes are invaluable resources. Regularly reviewing them reinforces students' understanding of the concepts taught in class. Students should consider condensing notes into concise summaries or flashcards, making revision more efficient and focused.
3. Utilise additional resources
Textbooks, online tutorials, and Google classrooms can provide alternate explanations and examples. These resources can offer a fresh perspective on challenging topics, enhancing students' understanding. Don't hesitate to ask teachers or peers for clarification if you encounter difficulties.
4. Practice past papers
Engaging with past exam papers gives you insight into the exam format and the types of questions asked. It also aids in time management and boosts your confidence by familiarising you with the exam environment. After completing a paper, review your answers to identify areas for improvement.
5. Put it into your own words
Passive reading is not as effective as active learning. Summarise chapters in your own words, teach concepts to others, or create mind maps. These techniques enhance memory retention and comprehension.
6. Stay healthy
Physical and mental well-being significantly impact your performance. Maintain a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and ensure adequate sleep. Manage stress through relaxation techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises. Reduce your part time work hours to assist in a good school and life balance.
7. Use the hub and form a study group
Collaborating with classmates can provide varied perspectives and explanations. Explaining concepts to others reinforces your understanding, and you might learn from their insights as well. Consider forming a study group during the examination period and use the hub to collaborate with peers.
8. Simulate exam conditions
Conduct mock exams under timed conditions to simulate the actual test environment. This practice enhances your time management skills and reduces anxiety on the exam day.
9. Believe in yourself
Confidence plays a pivotal role in your performance. Remind yourself of your accomplishments and the effort you've put into your studies. Trust in your abilities and focus on your growth throughout the year. I’m a firm believer that,
EFFORT = SUCCESS
The final senior exams for both Year 11 and 12 mark a significant step towards academic and personal development. I encourage all Stage 6 students to embrace this challenge as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. By following these strategies and maintaining a positive outlook, you'll be well-prepared to excel in your preliminary and HSC examinations.
Best wishes

Student Leadership Team
Thank you to all the Year 11 students who participated in the nomination process to select the Student Leadership Team for 2025. From these nominees we now have a leadership group that, not only have a vision for the college, but also the support of their peers and the staff.
Eurobodalla Youth Committee
Chloe Tyrrell from Year 12 has been a representative on this committee for several years. On behalf of the college I would like to thank her for the valuable contribution she has made to being a voice for youth across the region.
Malachi Condon, Ruby Hodgetts, Erica Shalders and Elsie Hanns have shown an ongoing commitment throughout the year to supporting the activities of the Eurobodalla Youth Advisory Committee.
We are very excited to report that Erica and Elsie have been selected to be part of the five member team to attend the NSW Youth Council Conference in Sydney from Friday 11 October – Sunday 13 October 2024. This is a unique conference where youth advisory representatives from different Council areas attend and have their say on issues including multiculturalism, mental health, leadership and advocacy, disability, the environment and more. A very exciting opportunity for students voice to be heard.
Thank you to Ms Boller.

Farewell Events for Year 12, 2024
In the coming weeks, we will be farewelling our Year 12 students. This is a very significant time for the College as we celebrate their contribution to our community and wish them every success in the future. The events we have planned offer a variety of ways for the students, staff and families to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our Year 12’s.
Our celebrations are outlined below and occur across Term 3, Week 10.
Monday 23 September - students are invited to attend the Year 12 BBQ breakfast hosted by the College and prepared by staff and the Year 11 Hospitality students.
Tuesday 24 September - Year 12 students and their families will attend the Graduation Mass at St Bernard’s Church in Batemans Bay.
Wednesday 25 September students will attend their last two formal classes followed by an assembly, farewell Guard of Honour and lunch.
Wednesday 13 November – the Year 12 Graduation Dinner will be held at Bay Pavilions.
Parent /Carer Conversation
Parenting young people can be a very rewarding experience but at times it can be challenging. It would be appreciated if all parents could have a conversation with their child/children reminding them of expectations around behaviour at school, in public and whilst travelling on public transport. As a college, we expect that while students are in the college uniform, they display exemplary behaviour and uphold the college values and code of conduct.
All students are required to wear their college uniform each day and are to follow the college uniform policy.
The only day(s) students are allowed to wear their sports uniform is when they have a PE practical class. Staff are aware of these days and will issue a detention for students in the wrong uniform and contact home will be made.
Please use the parent portal on Compass to check your child's timetable so you are aware of the correct day(s) for the wearing of the sports uniform.
Reminder
If you need to contact your child during the school day, can you please do this via the Front Office. Messages will be passed on during break times. If for any reason you need to collect your child again, please contact the college on 44715600 to make arrangements prior to your arrival so our exit procedures are completed without delay or email ccb.messages@cg.catholic.edu
For handwritten notes, parents are reminded that these need to be dated and signed by the parents or carer.
If a student has a medical certificate with a definite end date it is a legal requirement that they not be at school until that time has lapsed. If students are well enough to return before this date then a new certificate or letter from the Doctor stating this new return date will need to be supplied.
Parents are reminded that you are welcome to contact your child’s House Coordinator if you would like to share or discuss any issues related to your child’s wellbeing.
Kind regards,
Mrs Louise Ibbett

Every three years in the Catholic Church, we celebrate a special time known as the "Season of Living Bread." This season is a part of the Church's liturgical calendar, and it focuses on deepening our understanding and appreciation of the Eucharist, which is the sacred celebration of Jesus' body and blood in the form of bread and wine.
During the Season of Living Bread, the Church invites us to reflect on the importance of the Eucharist in our lives. We are reminded that the
bread we receive at Mass is not just ordinary bread; it is the true presence of Jesus, who nourishes our souls and strengthens our faith. In essence, the Season of Living Bread is a time to celebrate and remember the gift of the Eucharist, which unites us with Jesus and with each other as one community of believers. This was beautifully connected to our recent Year 4 Eucharist Day, held in the College Hall.
Year 4 students from St Mary’s and St Bernard’s experienced a special day as they participated in their Sacramental Retreat in preparation for receiving the First Eucharist. The retreat was a beautiful blend of reflection, learning, and community, providing our students with a deeper understanding of the significance of this sacrament.
The day began with a warm welcome and a prayer led by our Year 9 and 10 Youth Ministry students. Through clips, team building activities, discussions, and personal reflections, the Year 4 students were encouraged to think about how receiving the Eucharist will strengthen their relationship with Jesus and help them live out their faith in their daily lives.
The retreat also included a creative workshop where the students made their own rosary beads. This hands-on activity allowed them to express their understanding of the Eucharist in a personal and artistic way. Thank you to all who helped make this retreat a memorable and meaningful day for our students, particularly Mrs Barling and the Youth Ministry students.

VET Construction: Celebrating Our Year 11 Students' Work Placement Success
We are pleased to share the outstanding achievements of our Year 11 VET Construction students during their recent work placements. For many of these students, this was their first experience in the construction industry and related trades, and they have made us incredibly proud with their performance and the positive feedback they received from host employers.
Marlee Bennett had the opportunity to work with Bunnings in Batemans Bay, where the staff praised her exceptional work ethic and interpersonal skills. She quickly became a valuable part of the team, demonstrating maturity and a strong commitment to learning.
Will Sullivan gained hands-on experience with a local electrical contractor, Mitch Pearson from Bonded Earth. During his placement, he observed the critical importance of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and participated in Toolbox talks, which are essential for maintaining safety on the job site. Will showed a keen interest in understanding the safety protocols and was highly engaged throughout the experience.
Beau Mullins worked alongside his father in Wagga, where he gained invaluable experience in solar installations and commercial electrical work. This placement provided Beau with a firsthand look at the demands and rewards of working in the construction industry, further igniting his passion for the electrical trade.
These placements not only allowed our students to apply the skills they have learned in class but also gave them a glimpse into the real-world applications of their studies. The positive feedback from their host employers is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and readiness to take on the challenges of the construction industry.
We extend our thanks to all the host employers for providing these valuable learning opportunities and for supporting our students as they begin their journey into the workforce. We look forward to seeing more of our students thrive in their future placements and careers.
Well done to all involved!

Snow Excursion
Students from Years 10 to 12 participated in our annual CCB snow trip, heading to Berridale with high anticipation for days filled with skiing and snowboarding at Perisher.
Upon arrival, the students settled into their dorms, enjoyed a hearty dinner, and prepared for their snowy adventure. The experience included many first-time snow encounters, instructional skiing and snowboarding sessions at Smiggins, and exhilarating full days on the challenging slopes of Perisher.
The trip concluded successfully, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Mr Coates, Mr Fogarty, Mrs Smith, Mr and Mrs Graziani and the wonderful CCB students, marking a joyful and tired journey back home.
Archdiocesan Athletics
On Thursday, August 29, our Year 9/10 Girls Netball team competed in the Regional Finals of the South Coast Netball Cup.
Their first match was against a strong St Johns team. They then faced Trinity College, securing a close 8-7 victory. In their final pool game, they won 9-8 against Warilla High School, which earned them a spot in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they played St Peters but were defeated 10-5. However, they bounced back in the playoff game for third place, winning 9-8 against The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS).
The girls demonstrated commendable representation of the college, showing positive attitudes and excellent team spirit throughout the competition.
A special thank you goes to Kehlei for umpiring and to Marissa for managing the team.
