Aboriginal Contact Centre News

Over the past few weeks, Trisha Ellis has been sharing cultural knowledge and experiences with our Indigenous students. They have been participating in bush food walks and yarning circles as well as continuing to explore language. Trisha has also gifted our students with their own talking stick, which has been created especially for us and connects us to country.

Unfortunately, due to the unfolding situation with Covid we have been unable to celebrate NAIDOC as we normally would. This year’s NAIDOC theme was “Always was, always will be’ and students at Carroll College took the opportunity to learn about the significance of the Acknowledgement of Country. Each homeroom decorated their own Acknowledgement of Country to be displayed in their classroom as a reminder that we learn on Walbunja land.  Each student also completed a NAIDOC colouring in activity which was linked to this year's theme.

Last week saw our Indigenous Year 6 students visit the college as part of the Gurumbangma Mentoring and Transition Program. The students were able to spend some time connecting with our Indigenous leaders through games and cultural activities, and were taken on a tour of the school. We are looking forward to them starting Year 7 next year.
