RE Matters
RE Matters
At the moment, Year 10 students are engaging in course counselling sessions in order to support them in their subject choices for Year 11 and the Higher School Certificate.
All students at Carroll College are required to study Religious Education from Year 7-12. This is the position of Catholic Education Canberra-Goulburn and one that is fully supported by Carroll College. We are very proud of the Religious Education curriculum at the College and know that RE lessons are helping to develop skills in literacy, communication, research, analysis, questioning and reasoning as well as fostering more understanding, informed, justice oriented and socially aware students.
There are three different Religious Education courses on offer to Year 11 and Year 12 students. Below is a summary of each course.
Studies in Catholic Thought (1 unit course)
This course is a new course for 2021 and beyond. It is open to students completing a non-ATAR package. The course takes a liberal arts approach. This style of course, “views learning as an active process of exploration rather than a passive process of absorption. Instead of simply learning someone else's answers to life's questions, students are empowered to find their own answers through inquiry, dialogue, and analysis.” Students will require sound literacy skills and will develop skills of locating and selecting relevant and appropriate information. Students will learn how to use this information to communicate a viewpoint. The course will involve regular class discussion and some practical elements.
Studies in Catholic Thought has:

- 3 assessment tasks in the Preliminary (Yr11) course, including a 1 hour final examination
- 3 assessment tasks HSC (Yr 12) course, including a 1 hour final examination
