RE Matters

Today marks a very special day in the life of Carroll College as we bring together faith, learning, and service in action. We are delighted to welcome the Canberra–Goulburn Vinnies Youth Team to our College. Throughout the day, they will be visiting selected classes to run engaging workshops on social justice and the mission of St Vincent de Paul, before presenting at our Year 8 Pastoral Day. Their message of compassion and hope will challenge our students to reflect on how they can respond to the needs of others in practical and meaningful ways.

This evening, the Vinnies Youth Team will also join us for our annual Winter Sleepout. Students, staff, and community members will come together to spend the night in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness. The Sleepout is not just a symbolic gesture; it is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the struggles faced by so many in our local community and across Australia. Funds raised tonight will go directly to supporting the vital work of Vinnies, and we are incredibly grateful for the generosity already shown by our families and supporters.

Alongside these events, we also take a moment to celebrate our own Youth Ministry Team, who yesterday led the Year 4 Sacramental Retreat Day with St Bernard’s and St Mary’s. Their maturity, creativity, and leadership were on full display as they guided younger students in prayer, reflection, and learning. Their example reminds us that when young people step up in faith, they can truly inspire others.

Today is a reminder that at Carroll College, faith is lived, not just learned. Whether through workshops, retreats, or sleeping out in the cold, our students are showing what it means to put Gospel values into action.
