Meet the Cast of the Musical
We’re thrilled to introduce Sophie Barling, a talented Year 11 student bringing serious edge to the stage in this year’s musical production of We Will Rock You. Sophie takes on the role of Khashoggi, a character she describes as rebellious, charismatic, and determined.
“Playing Khashoggi is so much fun—it’s completely different from any role I’ve taken on before,” Sophie shares. “He’s evil, tough, and hates real music, so definitely not like me!”
Rehearsals have been a highlight for Sophie, who says, “I get to do what I love with some of my best friends.” She’s also picked up some key lessons along the way. “In musicals, you really have to fake it till you make it—in every sense of the word.”
Finding her character has been the biggest challenge, but Sophie’s favourite part of the show is how the modern references keep audiences laughing and engaged. Her favourite Queen song? Somebody to Love—a timeless classic.
As for why you should see We Will Rock You? “It’s super funny, different and vibrant, with Queen’s iconic music. You don’t want to miss it.”
One sentence to sum it all up?
A fun, high-energy musical filled with Queen’s greatest hits and a story about fighting for freedom through music.

Before stepping on stage, Sophie reminds herself to soak in every second: “It goes by so fast—don’t waste a moment.” And if Khashoggi ever hit the karaoke stage? You’d hear a fierce version of Bad Romance by Lady Gaga!
Behind every great musical is a crew of talented individuals making the magic happen—and Year 12 student Izzy Syne is one of them! As the bass player in the We Will Rock You band, Izzy brings the heartbeat of Queen’s music to life every performance.
Describing her role as challenging, satisfying, and fun, Izzy says what she enjoys most is “the feeling after battling a challenging song and hearing how amazing it sounds when it all comes together.”
This isn’t her first time on the strings—Izzy also played bass in Carroll’s 2022 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now, she’s back and better than ever. “The most fun part has been seeing how much we’ve improved after every rehearsal,” she shares.
Through this production, Izzy has strengthened her sight-reading skills and mastered some tricky rhythms. “The biggest challenge is definitely reading the music on the fly,” she admits, “but it’s worth it—especially in bass-heavy songs like Under Pressure, which I’m really proud of.”
Why should you see the show?
“It’s been amazingly produced by Mrs Lomax and her team—and, of course, the Queen music is killer!”

One sentence to sum it all up?
The best musical you’ll ever see.

Her favourite Queen song? Under Pressure—naturally. And if she could trade places with anyone for a night? “Mrs Lomax—she gets to tell people what to do!”
During long rehearsals, Izzy’s go-to snack is a trusty muesli bar, and if she had a superhero name for her role? “Bassanator.”
