HSIE News

It has been another busy fortnight in the wonderful world of HSIE.
Our Year 12 students are preparing for their HSC exams at the moment and our Year 11 Students are currently sitting their Preliminary Exams. We encourage all of our senior students to reach out to their classroom teachers to assist in exam preparation.

Year 12 Legal Studies
This week, our Year 12 Legal Studies class was fortunate to have a visit from local solicitor and former detective Stewart Gray. Stewart, who played a pivotal role in solving the 1997 Bega School Girl Murders, shared his firsthand experiences working on this significant case. The Bega School Girl Murders form a central part of the Crime unit in the Legal Studies syllabus, and Stewart's insights provided students with a deeper understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in criminal investigations and the legal process.

In addition to discussing this important case, Stewart also engaged the class in discussions around various legal concepts and other notable cases. His unique perspective, having transitioned from a detective to a solicitor, offered students a valuable glimpse into both sides of the justice system. The students found this experience incredibly enriching, as it brought to life the legal principles and cases they have been studying in class.

We thank Stewart for generously sharing his time and expertise with our students, and for contributing to their understanding of the law in such a meaningful way.

Year 10 History Students have just completed their Changing Rights and Freedoms Assessment Task, and these will be returned to them in the next week. Overall we were very pleased with the standard of work produced by our Year 10 students and would like to congratulate them.

Year 9 Geography Students are also completing their Biomes assessment tasks at the moment and they are welcome to seek support from their teachers if required.

Year 8 Geography Students are currently studying Water in the World. Last Friday students attended a fantastic excursion, where they completed Fieldwork at the Cullendulla Nature Reserve, examining the Mangrove Breeding Grounds as well as the environmental management strategies employed by the Eurobodalla Shire Council to ensure this pristine estuary is preserved. Students also did a cruise on the Merinda, where they learnt about water catchment and the role of Aquaculture in our local community.
Thanks to our wonderful HSIE team for providing such fantastic opportunities for our students.
