Fogarty_Charlton.jpg

It's been a big start to Term 2 for sport at CCB. Thanks to all the students for getting involved in representative sport. In our Archdiocese, Carroll College has a reputation of not only excelling in a wide variety of sports but also for our sportsmanship and conduct on the sporting field. I would like to congratulate all the students who represent our college with pride and respect on the sporting field.

Well done to Tyler Cooper who was part of the Southern Country team at the NSWCCC Opens Football (Soccer) Championships.

The Southern Country team is represented by selected players from three Dioceses within NSW - Bathurst, Wagga and Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

AFL - Boys

In Week 4, the College's Senior Boys AFL team played at Hanging Rock against Narooma High School in the Eurobodalla Secondary Schools' Cup.

It was a tightly contested game with both sides having momentum at different stages.

The team battled hard to come away with a solid 4 goal win. The final score was Carroll College 8.9.57 to Narooma High School 4.10.34.

The team progressed onto the South Coast Final in Ulladulla which was played last week.

The team started the day slow with a loss to a strong St John’s side, going down by 4 goals. They lifted their intensity and contest in the second game against a strong St Edmunds Rice side. They dominated possession but could not capitalise on the scoreboard going down by 3 points. The boys got rewarded for their efforts in the last game, beating another strong side in Warilla High School by a goal.

Congratulations to the team and thanks to Mr Thane for coaching and training the team.

CCC Tennis - Boys

Carroll College Boys Tennis Team had a very unlucky day in Bathurst at the CCC Tennis Teams Event. Carroll played Edmund Rice College from Wollongong who were the fourth seeds. It was a tight match, and we went down 5 sets to 3 and by only 6 games; 33-27 games. Standout was Will Lovegrove winning his singles 6-0.

We then went into the Plate Shield Draw and played off for 5th spot against Xavier College Lennox Head. It went down to the wire and Carroll College lost by one game; 4 sets all and 34 to 33 games.

The boys then had a walkover in their 7th v 8th playoff against St Mary's College, Gunnedah.

7th place overall was our final result. Congratulations Boys!

CCC Tennis - Girls

Our Girls' Tennis team played the fourth-seeded Brigidine College St Ives in the first round. All sets were tight, but the girls lost 5 sets to 1 in a match that did not reflect the score. They then went into the Plate Shield Draw and played our first match against MacKillop College - Bathurst. The girls played excellent tennis and won the match 5 sets to 3, 37 games to 23. Standouts were Arielle Brantingham and Bonnie Dalgleish winning their singles 6-0.
Our final match was against St Mary's College, Gunnedah - Official in the Plate Shield final. The girls really played some great tennis and managed to win the match 5 sets to 1, 31 games to 20.
Congratulations on being the Plate Shield Winners and getting 5th place overall. A terrific achievement!

7/8 South Coast Combined High Schools Touch Football Carnival

In week 5, our Year 7 and 8 students had a great day at the South Coast Schools Touch Carnival with both teams making the final.

Our girl's team fought a close battle with Ulladulla High School but unfortunately finished behind on the scoreboard. Congratulations to the girls for playing their hearts out all day!

Our boy's team played some outstanding touch all day and came into the final undefeated. They faced a strong Ulladulla High School team and it was a tightly fought battle. The lead changed multiple times and they finally went ahead by 3 tries. Ulladulla fought their way back and it went down to the wire. The boys dug deep and held out for 6-5 victory! Congratulations!

The boys now progress to Sydney for the next stage of the competition.

9/10 South Coast Combined High Schools Touch Football Carnival

Our 9/10 boys and girls touch football teams also competed in the South Coast Combined High Schools' Carnival on Thursday last week.
Both teams played well and made the grand final. The girls came up against a strong Trinity team going down 3-1 in the final. The girls played 5 games. They played Trinity, Lumen Christi and Moruya High.

The boy's team played a mixed bag of touch all day and left the best game of the day to last. They faced a strong Trinity team and after going down 5-1 against them in the previous game they played their hearts out to come away with the win. The boys started strong and won 3-1 in the final. They will now progress onto Sydney for the next stage in August. The boys came up against Karabar High, Lumen Christi, Trinity and Moruya High playing 5 games for the day.
A big thanks to Mr Brady, Miss Large, Mrs Davis, Mr Moreton and Miss Hannan for all their hard work in coaching and organising the teams.

Katrina Fanning Girls Rugby League

On Tuesday 21 May the U16's girls made up of Year 9 and 10 girls travelled to Narooma to compete in the Katrina Fanning Shield girls Rugby League. The girls played against two strong teams from Eden Marine High School and Narooma High School. The girls displayed some great rugby league skills throughout the day with a convincing win against Eden Marine High School. They met a strong Narooma team in the second game, unfortunately losing to them. It was necessary for us to forfeit the final game due to player numbers and injury.

It was great to see so many girls giving rugby league a go for the first time. Well done girls!
