RE Matters!
Staff Spirituality
At the start of each term, the staff gather to prepare themselves for the weeks ahead; we always begin with prayer and take time to pause and to connect with God and with our inner selves. This term we engaged in a more significant prayer centred around our new Vision and Mission statements. We began with a meditation on ‘Jesus as the True Vine’ from the Gospel of John (15:1-17). The staff took time to slowly reflect on the Scripture and what it was saying to each of us at that moment in time. Meditation in Scripture is a beautiful way to pray - there is no right or wrong and it is interesting to see where our minds and hearts take us as we focus on the words that stand out.
From this point, we read a wonderful reflection called “Listening as Healing” from Margaret Wheatley about the importance of telling, and listening to, stories. Staff then moved into small groups to consider how we are enlivening our Vision and Mission statements and how we might be able to improve.
All groups create a SlideShow presentation with real examples of how we are bringing our Vision and Mission to life. Groups then presented to each other to share their stories and listen to each other. It was a wonderful experience and one that made us all realise the great work happening here at Carroll College and our renewed commitment to be constantly improving.

Year 7 Formation Day
On Tuesday 17 October, the Year 10 Youth Ministry class ably led our Year 7 cohort through their Formation Day. The theme of the day was “A Friend for Life” and students were asked to consider the people in their lives who make them stronger and who support them in a positive way. Students also thought about the meaning of friendship and the qualities of a good friend. The final part of the day was a scavenger hunt which required teamwork and creative thinking.
Thank you to the Year 10 students for their excellent leadership and prior preparation. They did a wonderful job. Thank you to Ms Boller for her work with this class and for her ongoing commitment to Youth Ministry at Carroll College. Finally, thank you to Mrs Barling, Faith Formation Coordinator, for all her work in preparing the day and ensuring the Year 7 students had a positive experience.
