Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents, Students and Friends

I hope your week has been enjoyable.

Director of Catholic Education, Mr Ross Fox visited the college on Wednesday. It was lovely for Mr Fox to connect with students and staff. Three of the ‘first responders’ involved in last term’s critical incident were unable to attend the recent CECG Recognition Awards in Canberra as they were with students on the senior snow trip. Mr Tim Hodges, Mr Charlton Fogarty and Mr Joel Coates had an opportunity to briefly meet with the Director and they are photographed with the team below. Again, I congratulate them on their award.

Commissioning Ceremony for new Student Leadership Team (SLT)
We gathered as a college community earlier this week to commission our new senior Year 12 leaders. It is a privilege to work alongside these young people as they grow in confidence and develop leadership skills that will equip them for life beyond school. Our new leaders have demonstrated qualities of dedication, integrity, and a passion for making a positive difference. They have already shown their potential to inspire, guide, and support their peers. As they take on their roles, they inherit a legacy of leadership that has been carefully nurtured and built upon by those who came before them. I thank our outgoing SLT and know they have been outstanding ambassadors for the college. Pictured below are our outgoing Year 12 leaders who have handed over their positions to the newly elected Student Leadership Team.

College Captains 2023

Outgoing Captains Will and Tanesha expressed their congratulations to our new leaders in a heartfelt email which I share with you below.

Hi Everyone!

On behalf of the SLT of 2023, Tanesha and I would like to congratulate you on your new positions! We just wanted to say how proud we are of your selections into the SLT for 2023/24. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement! Your dedication, leadership skills, and commitment to making a positive difference in our college is a testament to your selections.

As you embark on this exciting journey, we want you to know that you have our full support. The responsibilities and opportunities of being a part of the SLT are immense, and we are confident that you will rise to the occasion and excel in your roles.
Your roles as leaders extend beyond just the title. You now have the chance to shape the experiences of your fellow students, inspire change, and foster a sense of unity within our community. We believe in your potential to create meaningful initiatives, organise engaging events, and uphold the values that make our college special.

These next couple of weeks are a great opportunity for you to come and talk to any of us, whether that be to your specific captain/s on expectations of your new role or just a general idea of what to expect. Please feel free to reach out to us!

Once again, congratulations on becoming members of the Student Leadership Team for 2023/24. Your journey is just beginning, and we can't wait to see the positive impact you will undoubtedly make.

Best regards,

Will, Tanesha and SLT 2023 :))

Commemoration

On Saturday 2 September 2023 the Moruya RSL Sub-Branch acknowledged veterans of the Afghanistan War and commemorated the 15th Anniversary of the battle of Khas Uruzgan. John Vardy is a former student of Carroll College and a veteran of the Afghanistan War. These young Australians perform a wonderful service for their country, then simply blend anonymously back into civilian life with little fuss or fanfare. It is fitting for them to be recognised for their service and I congratulate John on this important occasion. Matilda Taynor (Year 11) attended the ceremony in recognition of John's service to our country and was a wonderful ambassador for our college.

Thank you to Carroll College parent, Gary Traynor for raising our awareness of this anniversary.

Mr Greg McAteer, MacKillop House Coordinator is taking leave from next Monday for two weeks. I thank Mr McAteer for his work this term and hope he has a most enjoyable break with his family. He returns to work at the start of Term 4.

We welcome Mrs Kym Millikin to the role of MacKillop House Coordinator (Acting) in Mr McAteer's absence. Mrs Millikin will then replace Mrs Karen Lyttle for the first two weeks of Term 4 when she takes leave, switching to Xavier House Coordinator (Acting). I wish Mrs Millikin every success in these Pastoral roles.

With respect and encouragement to you.
