UOW Summer Master Class Program
The University of Wollongong Outreach has launched the Summer Master Class program for 2023, with applications now open and will close at midnight on Sunday 23 September (the last week of Term 3).
Please see some key facts, dates, and application information below:
Who can take part?
Students completing Year 12 in 2023.
What are the benefits for students?
This year students undertaking the Summer Master Class will:
- · Complete one of nine available university level subjects during their Summer Holidays that draws on and expands on current HSC subject syllabus
- · Students who successfully pass their subject will earn themselves 6 unspecified credit points that can be used towards most UOW undergraduate degrees, and;
- · Will at minimum be guaranteed a UOW admission interview to the university degrees that align with the Summer Master Class subject (please note students are guaranteed at minimum one interview offer to a course determined by UOW staff to be the best fit based on student interest and demonstrated academic ability).
When and where will the program be run?
Classes run from 3 January – 20 January 2023, with Orientation Days on 13 or 14 December 2022 and a final Celebration Event on 20 January 2023.
The majority of Summer Master Class classes and events will take place on the UOW Wollongong Campus but will include some online elements (check our website for indicative subject delivery)
How much does it cost?
The cost of the program for 2023 will increase slightly to $480 (compared to HECS fees between $500 – $1812 p/subject).
Students who meet the criteria outlined on our website are also eligible to apply for a partially or fully sponsored place within the application, which will allow the $480 fee to be halved or waived. Note that there are a limited number of sponsored places and as such meeting sponsorship criteria is not a guarantee of sponsorship being provided.

Addressing staff shortages in hospitality
The Illawarra South Coast Local Jobs Program, in partnership with the South Coast Centre of Excellence, has launched a hiring campaign to recruit workers into hospitality roles across the Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley. The “South Coast Hospitality Is Hiring” campaign runs from September to December 2022, and will give cafes, restaurants and other hospitality businesses the opportunity to promote the positions they need filled, with the Local Jobs Program matching jobseekers into those roles.
“Staff shortages are a significant challenge for many businesses right now” said Andrew Wales, Employment Facilitator for the Illawarra South Coast. “The South Coast Hospitality Is Hiring Campaign aims to ease some of the pressure on businesses by better connecting jobseekers into these available jobs”.
Businesses that need staff are asked to visit the campaign website https://ishiring.com.au/south-coast-hospitality to pledge the jobs they need to be filled. The Team at the Local Jobs Program will then work with employment service providers, as well as The Hiring List to match jobseekers into these roles. All pledged jobs will also be posted to the jobs board of the campaign website and promoted heavily across the region.
The campaign is also encouraging jobseekers to consider a career in hospitality.
“Hospitality is a booming sector with enormous opportunity to learn new skills and secure solid employment,” said Centre of Excellence Manager of Skills and Opportunities, Robyn Johnson. “If you’re a job seeker, student, or an existing worker looking for extra hours, you should seriously consider a job or career in hospitality”.
If you’re looking for work, you should register your details on The Hiring List (https://thehiringlist.com.au/) to ensure the Local Jobs Program team can match you into a role. You can also view the jobs that have been pledged on the campaign website. Campaigns targeting other sectors are also scheduled for rollout over the coming months.
For more information about the campaign, visit the campaign website, email info@iscjobs.com.au, or call Andrew Wales (Employment Facilitator for the Illawarra South Coast) on 0497 832330.
