Assistant Principal Curriculum News

We wish our Year 12 students all the best in their upcoming Trial exams. Students should be assured that if they have put in the hard yards, they will be rewarded. If they have any last-minute questions they should email their teachers. If they don’t have an exam in any particular time slot, they are encouraged to come and study at school and touch base with their teachers. Good luck!

I encourage all parents to make time to meet, via Teams, with all their children’s teachers during the upcoming Parent-Teacher evenings. The use of technology means you can meet no matter where you are. Once you have made a booking in Sentral, the teacher will email you a Teams invite. We ask that you join the meeting 5 minutes before your scheduled time slot and wait in the “lobby” until the teacher lets you in. These meetings are a great way to set some goals with your child and teacher to improve their grades for the second semester. If you have any difficulties with making a booking, please contact the College and we can help you or make bookings for you. Parent-Teacher evenings are on the following dates and times.

Tuesday 10 August (3.30pm - 7.00pm) - Week 5

Tuesday 17 August (3.30pm - 6.30pm) - Week 6

Thursday 19 August (3.30pm - 7.00pm) - Week 6

Year 11 students should now be increasing their study time in preparation for their End of Year Exams. Students should be completing unit summaries in all subjects and attempting past papers to check their understanding. The Year 11 exams begin in Week 8 and continue into Week 9.

Year 10 will be sitting the compulsory NESA Minimum Standards Tests in Week 7. Successful completion of these tests is mandatory if a student wishes to achieve an HSC credential. To be successful, students must attain a Level Three against the Australian Core Skills Framework in the Writing, Reading and Numeracy tests. Our students have always achieved these levels in the past. Students have multiple opportunities to achieve these levels and staff are on hand to assist students who have additional learning needs. If you would like to discuss these tests for your child, please contact me at the College.

Years 7 to 10 will be sitting a Progressive Assessment Test (PAT) in Spelling during Weeks 8 and 9. This test is part of the PAT test suite of tests that the College uses to track the progress of individual students and cohorts. The data obtained allows us to target our teaching so that we ensure all students are learning at their potential. Please encourage your child to take these tests seriously so that the data we gain on them is an accurate reflection of their ability. If you would like more information about these tests, please contact me.
