Assistant Principal Pastoral Care Report

At the end of last week, Mrs Heffernan and I had the pleasure of interviewing the Year 11 students who nominated to be considered for the Captain and Vice Captain roles for the Student Leadership team for 2022. These conversations allowed students to express the importance that Carroll College plays in their lives, their appreciation for the opportunities they have, and their vision for how they can contribute to enhancing the student experience moving forward. Students followed this interview with a speech to their Year group, which for some, seemed daunting but everyone shone as they shared their ideas with their peers. We are continuing the nomination process over the coming week to allow students to nominate for a range of other leadership positions to have their interview opportunity. The outcome of the process will be shared with the College community in the coming weeks when will have an opportunity to celebrate and farewell our current leaders and commission the team for 2022.

At the moment we are all confronted with the uncertain times that the Covid Delta virus is causing. As much as our regional location is offering a buffer we all realise that this is fragile. Many families have connections to communities that have been in lockdown for some time. This situation creates an ongoing source of tension which for some can lead to a build up of stress and anxiety. Headspace National is hosting free mental health education sessions across identified regions in NSW, on ways to support a young person when they are concerned about their mental health.

To access these sessions please refer to the links attached.

Our Year 12 students will begin their Trial HSC examinations next week. We wish them well. As the exam timetable begins, students are reminded that even though they are not following their normal lesson timetable, the resources of the Pastoral Care team are always available. Students can call the College and ask to speak to their Pastoral Coordinator or they can email for support.
